WAYNE CONTRACTORS Gets the Job Done Quickly with the Efficient UltraMax® 1400-45
Wayne Contractors President Randy Wayne uses the “v” word a lot to illustrate his philosophy on C&D. “V” stands for versatility — and versatility is essential to Wayne . His Ohio-based business thrives on the versatility, portability, and superior processing power that equipment from Eagle Crusher Company delivers.

“We'll do anything,” Wayne says. “Concrete, asphalt, C&D rubble, wood, limestone...if it will go through our 1400 system, we'll do it.”

Up-And-Running
Wayne is confident in his Eagle UltraMax 1400-45, a multi-product system impactor plant, because he's cut his time on jobs from months to weeks with this highly portable, high-production unit.

“After we trained our crew, we could move our UltraMax 1400-45 almost as fast as the smaller plant (UltraMax 500-05),” Wayne says. “We've done about 10–12 moves in the last year. We like to move at least once a month. And the Eagle gives us the fast tear-down and fast set-up.” In addition, the Eagle Crusher UM 1400-45 is fitted with a built-in gas-powered hydraulic lift/leveling system for quick set-up and stability.

Wayne relies on Team Eagle's responsive parts department to keep him up-and-running. “On most jobs, we have all the parts there in the morning, the crew begins, and by that evening we are up-and-running so that the next morning we can be productive again.”

Equipped for Success
Wayne feels his success in custom crushing is due in part to the fact that he's equipped for maximum versatility, with an emphasis on four strengths:

  • The ability to process a high volume of virtually any aggregate or common recyclable feed material
  • The ability to produce multiple products, simultaneously and to precise market specifications
  • The ability to take on the big jobs and complete them in a timely fashion
  • The ability to make even smaller jobs profitable through maximum efficiency and speed

“We also found we could run our UltraMax 1400-45 system with the same manpower as with the smaller plant, but increase our output almost double, sometimes more than double,” Wayne emphasizes. “We've been able to get in, get the job done, and get out in a timely fashion and give our customers the product quality they want.

“Our customers are happy not only with the quality of our products, but also because we haven't tied up their sites for so long,” he adds.

Customer satisfaction is critical to Wayne, and the production capabilities of the UltraMax 1400-45 with almost any feed type has expanded the range of jobs Wayne is willing to tackle.

“We've done 30,000- to 40,000-ton jobs, and I'm comfortable a 1400-45 could handle a 100,000-ton job, easily,” Wayne says. “Most other portable crushing systems would be on-site too long and not please the customer.”

Size Matters
Wayne notes that, when doing heavy demolition concrete, his company can process 1,500 to 2,500 tons a day depending on the size of the steel and site conditions. During a five-day work week, Wayne expects to process 10,000 tons.

“Our typical feed here is 3-foot cubed or 3-ft. by 4-ft.,” Wayne explains as he observes a site. “In a single pass through our 1400-45, we're able to bring that down to 3 1⁄2" minus, which is then screened by the system's 6-ft. by 20-ft. triple-deck screening plant into our two main products.

“Approximately 20% of our end product becomes high-quality 3 1⁄2-inch by 1 3⁄4-inch Ohio No. 2, and the remaining 80% becomes 1 3⁄4" minus, an excellent paving product comparable to No. 304 base used by most asphalt companies.''

Wayne was delighted with the durability of the 1400-45 at a large construction landfill, where it handled heavily steel-reinforced concrete, brick, block, and other C&D rubble.

“Even the larger pieces of pipe and larger rebar will go through without hurting the crusher — and it's comforting not to have to worry about breaking a blow bar because the blow bars are so much heavier.”

Conquering All
Wayne is convinced that his business has grown because of the reliability, combined with the versatility and efficiency, of the UltraMax 1400-45.

“I feel the job size we can take with our Eagle plant is virtually unlimited,” Wayne says.
